Cramlington Biomass CHP Plant

From May 15 to November 2017 Sword worked on 4 different Biomass Power Plants under contract to Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) at;

Snetterton, a 44.2 MW straw-fired power plant – completed in September 2017

Tilbury, a 40 MW waste-wood fired power plant

Cramlington, a 27.8 MW primarily wood fired biomass power plant

Kent, a 27.8 MW primarily wood-fired biomass power plant

Biomass power plants produce baseload CO2 neutral power utilizing agricultural or forest waste that typically is locally sourced.  BWSC biomass power plants, in the range of 15-70 MWe, are typically based on wood or straw fuel and can be configured for combined heat and power (CHP).

Sword’s operations on these projects included;

  • Pile Cropping
  • Excavation
  • Drainage
  • Reinforcement
  • Formwork
  • Concrete
  • Earthing
  • Installation of precast panels
  • All setting out, engineering, production of redline drawings and handover packages
  • Supply of all plant, equipment, labour and material procurement
  • All cast in items for steel work erection and plant components

Across the 4 power stations Sword were required to place 40,000m3 of concrete and fix 4,000 tonne of rebar and 30,000m2 of formwork.
